FC Barcelona 1-3 Real Madrid: A Match to Forget For Barca
FC Barcelona went head-to-head with Real Madrid for the famous 'El Clasico' at the Camp Nou to kick off the 2017/2018 season. However, cules across the world have their heads held down after Ronaldo and Co. scored three goals in the second half to gain a massive lead in the Spanish Super Copa. The new season under Valverde could not have started off any worse. Barca's heavy loss has people raging with anger, now demanding the board to sign Dembele and Coutinho in order to amplify the squad.
The first half was mediocre with both teams failing to find any real dangerous scoring opportunities. Even though Valverde's men controlled the first 45 minutes of the match with heavy possession, the Barca players struggled to find any space behind Madrid's tight defense. In addition, Aleix Vidal and Jordi Alba were not able to successfully feed the ball to Messi, Suarez or Deulofeu, which gave Barca an even harder time finding the back of the net.
The second half took an intense turn, with Los Blancos entering the pitch with a surge of energy from half-time. Zidane's side began to pressure the Barca defense, which resulted in an own goal from Gerard Pique. The Blaugrana quickly began their search for the equalizer, which came from a foul on Luis Suarez in the box. Messi did what he always does and smashed home a neat penalty to get Barca back in the game.
However, their celebrations were short-lived after a quick Madrid counter attack led to a quality class goal by Cristiano Ronaldo and a screamer from Marco Asensio to finish the first leg in Catalonia.
Barcelona is now back to their last season "remontada" antics, as they will travel to Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday in hopes of netting the ball three times while conceding none.
